The proposed project includes numerous Best Management Practices (BMPs) to address the resource concerns and improve water quality. The existing liquid manure storage on the farm is very limited; to be addressed with one new circular concrete manure storage structure (16’x80’) and associated manure transfer components (PTO pump, pressure manure transfer pipe, etc.). Select areas of existing field lane and silage pad are to be resurfaced and stabilized with gravel and/or asphalt millings. A new roofed heavy use area and manure stacking building (48’x72’ total) will provide a stabilized feeding and resting area for heifers and an area for storage of solid manure from heifers, dry cows, and calves through the winter months. Extension of the existing gutter cleaner and related equipment will allow conveyance of solid manure from the bank barn to the manure stacking area. New gravel animal walkways will be installed to provide a stabilized path from the roofed HUA to pasture. Waterways, culverts, and conveyor belt diversions are planned to address clean runoff upslope of and from the primary BMPs.
All work to be done in accordance with the Pennsylvania Technical Guide (PATG) NRCS standards and construction specifications.
